If you previously used NFC tags to log habits in Habitify but have since deleted those habits or switched to using iOS Shortcuts, you may find that scanning the tag still triggers a Habitify notification.

This guide explains why this "ghost notification" occurs and how to permanently remove it.

Why Is This Happening?

When you originally set up an NFC tag within the Habitify app, the app did more than just create a setting—it physically wrote a data payload (a specific Habitify URL) onto the NFC chip inside the tag.

Even after you delete the habit or the NFC link within the Habitify settings, the physical data remains on the tag itself. When your iPhone or Android device scans the tag, it reads that stored URL and automatically attempts to open Habitify, resulting in a notification or the app launching unexpectedly.

The Solution: Erase the Physical Tag

To stop the notifications, you must format or erase the data stored on the physical NFC tag. Deleting settings within the app is not enough; the chip itself must be wiped clean.

Step 1: Download an NFC Utility App

To interact with the physical data on the tag, you will need a third-party tool. We recommend a free, reliable app called "NFC Tools," available on both the App Store (iOS) and Google Play Store (Android).

Step 2: Erase the Data

  1. Open the NFC Tools app.

  2. Select the Other tab (or "More" depending on your version).

  3. Choose the Erase tag option.

  4. Approach the tag with your phone (usually near the top of the device).

  5. Hold it steady until the app confirms that the data has been successfully wiped.

Step 3: Test the Scan

Once the tag is erased, scan it again.

  • If you are using Shortcuts: Only your iOS Shortcut should trigger now.

  • If you are not using any automation: Nothing should happen when the tag is scanned.

By erasing the tag, you remove the "Habitify signature" from the physical chip. This allows you to repurpose the tag for other automations or simply stop it from interacting with Habitify.

If you encounter further issues after erasing the tag, please ensure that no other automation apps (like "IFTTT" or "Shortcuts") are also trying to trigger a Habitify action.
