First Hand is Hampden Watch’s six-hour, hands-on watchmaking experience hosted at our historic Chicago headquarters. Guided by third-generation CEO Joseph Wein, each participant assembles their own Swiss-made mechanical watch from the inside out — learning the fundamentals of traditional movement design and fine assembly techniques.

During the workshop, you’ll:

  • Set the dial and hands

  • Regulate timing

  • Case and test your engraved movement

  • Celebrate your first tick with a toast

  • Take home your finished Hampden mechanical watch

  • Set the dial and hands

What Makes It Special

Your movement is engraved with your initials and assembly date, visible through the sapphire exhibition caseback — a personal signature of craftsmanship and memory.

Guests choose from two exclusive dial colors and enjoy a chef-catered lunch during the session.

This is a rare opportunity to experience watchmaking from the inside — combining hands-on skill, storytelling, and a lasting heirloom.
