Need to access your money? Withdrawing funds from Harvest is simple. Because we manage your investments automatically, there are a few steps our system takes behind the scenes to ensure your portfolio stays balanced while getting your cash to you.
Where to Start
You can initiate a withdrawal from two places:
Portfolio Page: Click the Withdraw button near your total balance.
Funding Page: Navigate to the Withdraw tab to see your available cash and linked bank accounts.
The Withdrawal Process
1. Choose Your Amount
Select a preset "Quick Amount" ($100, $500, $1,000) or enter a custom amount.
Note: The minimum withdrawal is $1.00. You can withdraw up to your total portfolio value, but please see the "Processing Timeline" below if you are withdrawing more than your available cash.
2. How We Generate Cash
If your withdrawal amount exceeds your "Available Cash," Harvest will automatically sell a portion of your holdings.
Proportional Selling: To keep your portfolio diversified, we sell a small, equal percentage of every holding you own. This maintains your target risk level.
Auto-Invest Pause: We’ll temporarily pause your Auto-Invest settings to prevent new money from entering the market while we're trying to get cash out for you. It will resume automatically once the transfer is complete.
3. Review and Confirm
Before clicking Confirm, review the summary. It will show you:
The estimated date the funds will hit your bank.
The specific bank account receiving the funds.
A breakdown of any holdings that need to be sold.
Processing Timelines
The time it takes to receive your money depends on whether we need to sell stocks (liquidate) or if you already have enough cash sitting in your account.
If you have... | Action Required | Estimated Time |
Sufficient Cash | Direct ACH Transfer | 1–3 Business Days |
Insufficient Cash | Sell Holdings + Transfer | 3–5 Business Days |
Why does it take 3–5 days?
When we sell stocks, we must follow the T+1 Settlement rule. This means the market takes 1 business day to "settle" the trade and turn the stocks into spendable cash. After that, the ACH transfer to your bank typically takes another 1–2 business days.
Important Considerations
One Withdrawal Per Day: Per standard banking and brokerage limits, you may initiate one withdrawal per trading day.
Recent Deposits: If you recently deposited money, it may be "locked" for up to 5 business days to ensure the bank transfer clears before it can be withdrawn again.
Tax Implications: Selling holdings may trigger a capital gains tax event. Harvest does not provide tax advice; we recommend consulting a tax professional regarding your specific situation.
