AdvancedMD EHR Integration Setup Guide

This guide explains how to generate AdvancedMD API credentials, obtain required access approvals, and provide the necessary information for HealthArc to complete the AdvancedMD EHR integration.

Written by HealthArc Support

Overview

The integration enables HealthArc to securely access clinical data from AdvancedMD using the AdvancedMD FHIR APIs. AdvancedMD's FHIR APIs provide read-only access to patient and clinical data. If your organization requires HealthArc to write data (such as uploading documents or reports) back into AdvancedMD, additional Partner API access may be required through AdvancedMD's Interoperability team.

To begin integrating your AdvancedMD EHR with the HealthArc platform, please follow the steps below to generate the required credentials and provide the necessary access for integration.

Prerequisites

Before starting the integration process, please ensure that you have:

  • An active AdvancedMD account

  • Administrative access to your AdvancedMD environment

  • Permission to create applications in the AdvancedMD FHIR Developer Portal

  • Your AdvancedMD Office Key

  • Access to submit requests to AdvancedMD Interoperability Support

Part 1 – Create a FHIR Application

Step 1 – Access the AdvancedMD FHIR Developer Portal

  1. Open the AdvancedMD FHIR Developer Portal: https://fhir.advancedmd.com/

  2. Create an account if you do not already have one and sign in.

Step 2: Create a New Application

  1. Click your profile (email address) in the upper-right corner.

  2. Navigate to the Apps section.

  3. Click New App.

  4. Enter the required application information, including:

    • Application Name

    • Description

Step 3 – Select the Appropriate API Product

Choose the API product based on your integration requirements.

For standard HealthArc patient data integration

Select:

FHIR Single Patient API

OR

For population or bulk patient data integrations

Select:

FHIR Bulk API

Important: Each application should request only one API product. If multiple API products are required, create separate applications for each.

Step 4 – Save the Application

After completing the application details and selecting the appropriate API product:

  1. Save the application.

  2. The application will remain in a pending state until approved by AdvancedMD Interoperability.

Part 2 – Request Application Approval

Step 5 – Submit an Interoperability Support Request

After creating your application, submit a request to AdvancedMD Interoperability for approval.

Create a support request using the appropriate FHIR/API Support option.

Include the following information:

  • Your AdvancedMD Office Key

  • Application Name

  • A request to authorize the application for HealthArc integration

  • Any additional information requested by AdvancedMD

This enables the AdvancedMD Interoperability team to locate and authorize your application.

Step 6 – Wait for Approval

The AdvancedMD Interoperability team will review your request and approve the application.

Once approved, the requested API product will be enabled for your application.

Part 3 – Retrieve API Credentials

Step 7 – Obtain Your Client Credentials

After your application has been approved:

  1. Return to the AdvancedMD FHIR Developer Portal.

  2. Open your application.

  3. Navigate to the API Keys section.

Record the following credentials:

  • Client Key

  • Client Secret

These credentials are required for the HealthArc integration.

Part 4 – Provide Information to HealthArc

Step 8 – Share the Required Information

Provide the following information securely to your HealthArc Implementation Team:

  • Client Key

  • Client Secret

  • Office Key

  • Application Name

HealthArc will use these credentials to configure and validate the integration.

Part 5 – Optional Document Write-Back Integration

Step 9 – Enable Document Write-Back (If Required)

If your organization requires HealthArc to upload documents, reports, or other information back into AdvancedMD, additional interoperability services are required.

The standard AdvancedMD FHIR APIs support read-only access and do not allow data to be written back into AdvancedMD.

For write-back functionality, HealthArc will coordinate with your organization and the AdvancedMD Interoperability team to determine the appropriate Partner (Connect) API services and credentials required for your implementation.

Part 6 – HealthArc Configuration

Step 10 – HealthArc Configuration and Validation

Once HealthArc receives the required credentials, the implementation team will:

  • Configure the AdvancedMD connection.

  • Validate authentication and connectivity.

  • Verify successful retrieval of clinical data.

  • Perform integration testing.

  • Confirm successful completion of the integration.

Your dedicated Customer Success Manager will provide updates throughout the implementation process and notify you once the integration has been successfully completed.

Information Required by HealthArc

Before the integration can begin, please provide the following:

Information

Required

AdvancedMD Office Key

Application Name

Client Key

Client Secret

Important Notes

  • Administrative permissions are required to create applications and request interoperability access.

  • Each application should request only one FHIR API product (FHIR Single Patient API or FHIR Bulk API).

  • AdvancedMD FHIR APIs provide read-only access to clinical data.

  • Uploading documents or writing data back into AdvancedMD requires additional Partner (Connect) API access and approval through AdvancedMD Interoperability.

  • HealthArc will complete the final configuration, testing, and validation after receiving the required credentials.

What Happens Next?

Once all required credentials and approvals have been received:

  1. HealthArc will configure and test the integration.

  2. The implementation team will validate connectivity and data exchange.

  3. Your dedicated Customer Success Manager will provide updates throughout the setup process and confirm once the integration is complete.
