Pharmacy First vs. Pharmacy First (England)
Pharmacy First and Pharmacy First (England) are the same clinical service, but the referral pathway differs:
Pharmacy First offers in-person MyGP referrals.
Pharmacy First (England) offers Econsult referrals nationally, with appointments delivered either in person or via secure video call.
Why Pharmacy First (England) matters
Pharmacy First (England) is a powerful opportunity for pharmacies to:
Expand their reach beyond the local catchment area
Connect with more patients nationwide
Unlock additional NHS funding
Whether you're a community pharmacy or a distance-selling pharmacy, this service helps you grow your impact while directly supporting NHS targets — turning everyday consultations into increased revenue and stronger patient relationships.
How to set up a service
By implementing these services, pharmacy partners can unlock their full potential — optimising care for current patients while driving growth by reaching and engaging a wider audience.
[Add step-by-step setup instructions here, e.g. enabling the service in your Healthera dashboard, completing any NHS sign-up requirements, configuring availability, etc.]
How it works for the patient
The patient journey varies slightly depending on the referral pathway. Here's how it works on the Econsult pathway as an example:
The patient searches for the condition they want advice on or an appointment for.
When they search for a Pharmacy First condition, they're directed to complete the Healthera Pharmacy First questionnaire.
Once submitted, the patient chooses between an in-person or video consultation.
They then select an available day and time that suits them.
The booking is sent to your pharmacy, ready for you to action.
How the appointment looks and how to action it
[Add details here about how appointments appear in the pharmacy dashboard, what status changes mean, and the steps to confirm, complete, or reschedule a booking.]
How to join a video call appointment from your calendar
[Add the step-by-step instructions for joining a video consultation from the calendar view — including where to click, browser/device requirements, and any troubleshooting tips.]
