How to review phone data

How to review text messages, WhatsApp, photos, videos, and voicemails in Case Data.

Review text messages, WhatsApp conversations, social media direct messages, photos, videos, and voicemails. All message-based data types share the same review interface in Case Data.

Browse conversations

Click a data source — Messages or WhatsApp in the Data Sources sidebar. A list of conversations appears with contact names, message counts, and dates. Click a conversation to open it.

The conversation view shows the full message history with sender names, timestamps, and media. Each message displays the sender, date and time, message text, and any images, videos, or attachments.

Open the Evidence Panel

Click on a specific message to open the Evidence Panel on the right side of the screen. The panel shows the selected message text, any applied tags, and a Comments section where you can add notes about that message.

Toolbar

The toolbar above the conversation provides search, navigation, translation, commenting, printing, and tagging tools. Click the gear icon to open View Settings, where you can toggle tag visibility, adjust font size, enable auto-scroll, or compare with another conversation. See How to use review tools for a full guide to each feature.

Photos and Videos

Click Media in the sidebar to view collected photos and videos from the device's camera roll. Use the All, Photos, and Videos tabs to filter. Toggle between grid and list views using the icons in the top right.

In list view, each file shows its name, type badge, file size, and date. Click the download icon to save a file, or the comment icon to add a note.

Voicemails

Click Voicemail in the sidebar to view collected voicemails. Each voicemail includes the audio file with a built-in player and an automatic transcription of the message. The same toolbar features — search, comments, tags, print — are available.

WhatsApp

WhatsApp use the same review interface as text messages. Select the source in the Data Sources sidebar to browse its conversations.
