How Revenue and Metrics are Calculated

Understanding how Heatmap.com calculates revenue and other key metrics is crucial for making informed decisions about your website's performance. This article explains our calculation methods for two primary metrics: Revenue Per Click and Revenue Per Session.

Important Notes on Revenue Attribution

1. Aggregated Model: Heatmap.com uses an aggregated model for tracking revenue per element. This means:

- If a user clicks multiple elements before making a purchase, the full revenue is attributed to each clicked element.

- Example: If a user clicks 10 elements before making a $100 purchase, each of those 10 elements is attributed $100 in revenue.

2. Session-Based: Revenue is calculated on a per-session basis, not per user. A single user may have multiple sessions, each counted separately.

3. Last-Click Attribution: For conversion tracking, we use a last-click attribution model. The last element clicked before a purchase gets credit for the conversion.

Using These Metrics

- Use Revenue Per Click to identify your highest-performing individual elements.

- Use Revenue Per Session to understand overall page performance and compare similar elements.

- Always consider these metrics in context with other data points, such as total clicks, total sessions, and conversion rates.

Remember, while these metrics provide valuable insights, they should be part of a comprehensive analysis of your website's performance. Always test changes based on these metrics to ensure they truly improve your site's overall performance and user experience.
