Revenue-based heatmaps show what user interactions on your site are correlated with revenue or goal-based outcomes, helping you identify elements that drive sales and areas that are losing you money. Other “heatmaps” only show clicks… but clicks don’t make you money!

What are Revenue-Based Heatmaps?

Revenue-Based heatmaps are an advanced analytics feature that overlay revenue data on a website’s layout. These heatmaps show not only where users click, but also how much revenue those clicks generate. By visualizing this data, you can quickly identify which site elements (buttons, links, images, etc) are most effective at driving sales and which require optimization.

Why Use Revenue-Based Heatmaps?

Revenue-Based heatmaps provide insights into financial performance by linking user behavior to actual revenue. They go beyond basic user interaction by showing Purchase Count, Total Revenue, Average Order Value, Revenue Per Click, and many more.

These insights help you:

  • Prioritize high-performing areas

  • Optimize underperforming elements

  • Make data-driven decisions on where to invest for greater profitability

How Do Revenue-Based Heatmaps Work?

Revenue heatmaps display data for each clickable element on your site.

  • Hover Overlay: Each element shows dollar amounts corresponding to revenue, offering a clear view of financial impact.

  • Metrics: When clicking on elements, you can view the following metrics:

    • Purchase Count: The total number of purchases associated with an element. A high purchase count suggests the element is closely tied to sales.

    • Total Revenue: The total revenue generated from all purchases linked to a particular element.

    • Average Order Value (AOV): The average amount spent per order on the element. This metric is key for assessing whether users tend to spend more on particular elements.

    • Conversion Rate: The percentage of clicks on an element that result in a purchase. A higher conversion rate indicates an element’s effectiveness in driving sales.

    • Revenue Per Click (RPC): The average revenue generated per click on an element. This shows how well each click translates into financial outcomes.

    • Revenue Per Session (RPS): The average revenue generated by each element per session correlated to clicks on specific elements. This can help identify how sessions with interactions on certain elements perform compared to others.

By using these metrics, you can pinpoint high-performing elements and those that need redesign or repositioning.

When to Use Revenue Heatmaps for Optimization

Use revenue heatmaps to make data-driven decisions about your website’s content and layout:

  • Prioritize high-revenue elements for A/B testing to further boost conversions.

  • Repositioning underperforming elements to more prominent locations to increase visibility.

  • Identify successful elements and replicate them across the site for consistent performance.

  • Optimize product and service placement based on their revenue impact.
