Interactive Mode

Updated this week

What is Interactive Mode: Apply heatmaps to Dynamic Elements

Interactive Mode allows you to engage directly with dynamic elements on your website that do not appear on your resting-state website. Inside the application, you can interact with live site components - like dropdowns, accordions, or popups - that don’t show without clicking an element on your website.

If your navigation menu only appears on hover or on click… other heatmaps likely won’t capture this without needing to take a new manual screenshot.

We don’t like manual work. We like it instantly! Interactive Mode bridges the gap between static heatmaps and dynamic site elements.

Why Use Interactive Mode: Capturing Insights Beyond Static Pages

Many key user interactions occur on dynamic or hidden elements that standard heatmaps can’t capture. Interactive Mode allows you to analyze that extra layer of depth to really understand your user behavior. You can user interactive mode to get:

  • Accurate data for interactive elements like navigations or accordions.

  • Insights into user interactions with dynamic features like surveys, email captures, or popups.

  • Greater understanding of how engagement with these elements impacts conversion rates or session duration.

How to Activate Interactive Mode: A Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Click the “Interactive Mode” button in the top-right menu of the main navigation bar as seen below and observe all the heatmap dots disappear

2. Navigate your website as a user would on the actual site—hover, click, or expand elements like a menu, carousel or dropdown.

How to capture Special Hover Functions on Desktop Views

To capture elements in a desktop menu that opens submenus on hover,

  • place your cursor over the menu and hold it there for about 5 seconds.

  • Then switch back to Data Mode without moving the cursor elsewhere.

Following these steps effectively captures Hover functions on more complex menu designs.

Note: Interactive Mode does not redirect the current page to another url as a live site would. The purpose of this feature is to ensure you can interact with elements within the specific page and view their user engagements and data.

When to Use Interactive Mode

  • To analyze the performance of a dropdown menu or sidebar navigation.

  • When assessing the impact of popups like discount offers or feedback surveys.

  • To track engagement with FAQ sections hidden within accordions.
