General Information
Visualize User Behavior in Action
Have you ever wondered where your users are getting stuck on your site? Screen Recordings can help. Screen Recordings capture the actual journeys of visitors as they navigate your pages, showing mouse movements, clicks, scrolls, and even hesitations. Unlike static heatmaps, recordings provide a dynamic, step-by-step view of user behavior, revealing the context behind every action. You can watch real user sessions to identify usability issues, understand user intent, and see firsthand how design elements impact navigation and conversions.
With screen recordings, you’ll uncover friction points you might never catch in analytics alone, like confusing navigation paths, missed calls-to-action, or frustrating errors, empowering you to optimize the user experience holistically.
Why Use Screen Recordings?
Screen recordings give you a detailed, real-world perspective on how users interact with your website, so you can:
Visualize the full user journey, not just where clicks happen
Identify points of confusion or drop-off by watching how users move, scroll, and pause
See how long it takes users to complete tasks or reach conversion points
Understand the context of interactions, such as why users ignore or abandon certain elements
Validate design and UX changes by comparing recordings before and after updates
Getting Started
How to review Screen Recordings
Heatmap Recordings are easy to use and review. To review a screen recording, navigate to your Heatmap menu:
Navigate to the Recordings section in your Heatmap menu.
All the recordings available to watch are located in your Recordings Dashboard and can be adjusted to a specified date range. You can choose to review videos by intent score, purchase value, duration, number of pages, page clicks, entry page, and browser/country.
You can choose to filter for specific user groups in your analysis. You’ll have access to pre-built filters that allow for common session-specific or Ecommerce-specific data in addition to Custom Filters capabilities.
Click on an individual screen recording to watch the video.
Play the video to watch the user navigate through their session. Important events like click or scroll events will be highlighted as orange and green dots on your recording timeline. You can also adjust the playback speed, choose to skip inactivity during the session, and make the video full-screen.
When to Use Screen Recordings
A/B Testing: Watch how users interact with different versions of a feature or layout to quickly identify which variation drives better engagement or conversions.
New Website Launches: Monitor how visitors engage with recently added pages, forms, or promotional content to catch usability issues early and validate adoption.
Troubleshooting Drops in Performance: Investigate sessions from low-converting segments (ie: mobile users or specific browsers) to pinpoint friction points and technical issues.
Post-Implementation Reviews: Review user behavior and feedback after deploying new features or design changes to refine and optimize your updates.
