The Heidi Desktop App remains the best and most stable option for telehealth. It’s built for high-quality, uninterrupted sessions, supporting Bluetooth headphones and system-level audio capture.

Coming soon - Heidi will support telehealth directly in your Chrome or Edge web browsers

1. Telehealth with the Heidi Desktop App (Recommended)

For the most stable telehealth experience, use the Heidi Desktop App on your Mac or Windows computer.

Key Features

  • Bluetooth Headphone Support: Capture clear audio while using your preferred headset.

  • System-Level Audio Capture: Records all consultation audio, even while multitasking.

  • Enhanced Stability: Ideal for clinicians who rely on Heidi daily for patient consultations via telehealth.

How to set up

  1. Download and install: The Heidi Desktop App here

  2. Configure Audio Preferences: Set up your audio to ensure Heidi captures all essential conversations.

  3. Start transcribing: Open the Heidi Desktop App and your telehealth platform side-by-side and begin your session

Side-by-side session

On Mac: Launch the Heidi Desktop App and Telehealth platform (eg. Zoom) on two separate windows. Hover over the green expand screen to "tile to right" then select the other window in the left.

On Windows: Launch the Heidi Desktop App and Telehealth platform (eg. Zoom) on two separate windows. Snap Heidi to one side by clicking the title bar of the Heidi Desktop App, dragging it to the left or right edge of the screen, and releasing when a highlight appears. Click the other window in the available half-screen space to snap it into place on the opposite side.

2. (In BETA) Telehealth using your Web browser (Chrome or Edge)

➡️ COMING SOON

New and improved telehealth for web browsers below is coming soon for all users

If you’re using Chrome or Edge, you can now record telehealth sessions directly in your browser — no split screen, no extra setup - and bluetooth headphones are supported.

How it works

  1. Open Heidi in Chrome or Edge.

  2. Open your telehealth session in another browser tab.

  3. In Heidi, select “Telehealth” from the dropdown

4. When prompted, select your telehealth tab and make sure “Share tab audio” is enabled.

5. Heidi will live transcribe the consultation audio and generate your clinical note when the session ends.

⚠️ Limitations:

  • Works only in Chrome and Edge

  • Safari and Firefox are not supported

  • Audio capture is limited to tabs in the same browser

  • Recording will not start if “Share tab audio” isn’t selected.

Using Safari, Firefox or other browser

If you don’t have access to Chrome or Edge, you can still use Heidi for telehealth, BUT to ensure all audio is captured - you’ll need to either:

  1. Split-window setup: Keep Heidi open on one half of your screen and your telehealth platform on the other

  2. Or, Use the mobile app while your sessions runs on your computer.

Split-Window Setup on Mac

  1. Open Heidi and your telehealth platform in two windows.

  2. Hover over the green expand button → select “Tile Window to Right/Left of Screen.”

Split-Window Setup on Windows

  1. Open Heidi and your telehealth platform in two separate windows.

  2. Drag one window to the left or right edge until it snaps into place.

  3. Select the other window to fill the remaining space.

Using Heidi on your computer and Mobile App

This setup helps capture your conversation without needing to setup a split-window setup or install the desktop app.

  1. Open your telehealth session on your computer and play the audio through your speakers.

  2. Open Heidi on your mobile device (using the app or browser) and place it nearby so it can clearly capture the conversation.

  3. Start your consultation as normal — Heidi on your phone will record the session and generate your transcription or note when finished.

Telehealth visits with headphones

The Heidi Desktop App, and currently in beta but coming soon - Chrome/Edge browsers - all support headphones/earphones for TeleHealth consults. Run your consults as described above with your headphone plugged in, and Heidi will pick up both the patient's and your voice for the transcription.

If you are running Heidi on Safari/Firefox or other unsupported browser, headphones are not supported so you'll have to run your session out loud and follow the instructions above.

Before your session

  • Ensure microphone permissions are enabled for Heidi and your telehealth platform.

  • Close any other apps using your microphone.

  • Test a short recording before your appointment to confirm your setup works correctly.
