Ask Heidi is your clinical AI partner that works alongside you. Don't spend time searching multiple sources or manually creating documents from scratch, simply ask Heidi what you need.

Whether it's verifying treatment protocols for complex cases, looking up contraindications before prescribing, generating referral letters, or making adjustments to your clinical notes. Heidi handles the documentation work and information gathering, so you can focus on patient care.

What can Ask Heidi do?

Ask Heidi helps with three main types of tasks:

  1. πŸ” Research mode (in beta - US Heidi Labs only): get evidence-based answers to medical questions with citations from trustworthy, evidence-based sources like clinical guidelines, peer-reviewed research, and medical databases.

  2. πŸ“„ Clinical document creation: Create referral letters, discharge summaries, handover notes, and more - perfect when you don’t have a template.

  3. ⚑ Quick Edits and admin tasks: make quick formatting edits, adjust tone or length, add medical billing codes, or pull in medication information β€” all within your session.

Simply type what you need into the Ask Heidi bar at the bottom of the page, or press the Ask Heidi button on mobile.

πŸ” Research Mode: Medical Questions with Trusted Sources

Ask Heidi now has a Research mode option which provides evidence-backed answers to your medical questions, including treatment, drug and diagnostic information, with linked citations from trusted sources. When you ask medical or clinical questions, Heidi will automatically provide answers with inline links to sources you can verify β€” helping you feel confident to make informed clinical decisions, right in your workflow.

How it works

  • Simply select β€œResearch”, then type your medical question into the chat box at the bottom of the page, just like you always have.

  • Heidi will use AI search and knowledge retrieval to provide answers with inline citation links (like [RACGP], [CDC], [Cochrane]) that you can click to verify the source.

  • Heidi searches and synthesises information from trusted medical sources online. Since this involves analysing multiple sources for comprehensive answers, responses may take longer - up to a few minutes for complex questions.

Example medical questions you can ask:

  • "What are the RCH guidelines for pediatric asthma management"

  • β€œWhat are the colonoscopy screening guidelines for a 50 yo male with a family history of colon cancer?”

  • β€œWhen should I order a head CT for a patient with a recent head injury?”

  • β€œDoes the dosage of ramipril have to be adjusted for renal impairment?”

  • β€œWhat is the most effective biologic for treating plaque psoriasis based on current research?”

Understanding the sources

Throughout Heidi's response, you'll see inline source citations like [RACGP], [CDC], [Cochrane], or [RCH]. Simply click on any citation to open the source and verify the information.

Heidi searches across authoritative medical sources from multiple regions to answer your clinical questions. The specific sources returned depend on your query - a question about paediatric dosing might pull from different sources than one about cardiovascular guidelines.

Commonly used sources and guidelines:

All responses include clickable citations so you can verify the sources.

Important to know

  • Use for routine clinical decision support, not for medical advice or emergency use

  • Always verify the sources by clicking the citation links.

  • Use your clinical judgment. Heidi assists you, but you make the final decisions.

Provide feedback:

  • Use πŸ‘ when sources are helpful and relevant

  • Use πŸ‘Ž if the answer isn't quite right - this helps us improve
