Who this is for: Hosts and Cleaning Companies that Landing has asked to help with a locksmith.
By the time Landing asks you to help with a locksmith, we have already tried the normal access method and the basic troubleshooting for the lock and ruled out other options. Only help with a locksmith when Landing has explicitly asked you to. Landing arranges the locksmith and covers the cost. This article covers the unit door only.
What is my role with the locksmith?
When Landing asks you to help on site with a locksmith:
Stay on site until the issue is solved. Be there while the locksmith works so the job gets finished.
Keep the old, defective lock or lockbox. Leave it in the unit or in Landing's assigned storage unit. Do not dispose of it.
Handle the new keys as Landing tells you. Make sure there are enough copies. Usually some keys are left on the counter, and Landing tells you where the rest go, which may be temporarily to the leasing office or the Area General Manager.
Follow up with Landing throughout the process.
If Landing asks you to pay the locksmith, use your PEX card and keep the receipt.
Locksmith protocol for a Latch
First, you must have worked through the troubleshooting in the Latch article, including the jump start for a dead battery. If that did not fix it, and only once Landing has authorized a locksmith, the locksmith drills the Latch to open the door. When it comes to drilling, ask Landing how to drill the Latch and we will share the guide with you.
Never drill a Latch yourself, and never decide on your own to drill one. Drilling is the locksmith's job, and it only happens after Landing has authorized it.
Locksmith protocol for a property-provided smart lock
First, you must have worked through the troubleshooting in the Property Provided Smart Lock article. Landing then checks with the property, to see whether the property can provide access another way, or whether the property's maintenance team will handle the lock themselves. If it still comes to a Landing locksmith, and only once Landing has authorized it, the locksmith opens and replaces the lock.
Locksmith protocol for a manual lockbox
First, you must have worked through the troubleshooting in the Manual Lockbox article. If the lockbox still will not open, and only once Landing has authorized a locksmith, the locksmith opens the lockbox so you can get the keys. Landing may also ask you to set up a new lockbox.
