Who this is for: Hosts and Cleaning Companies working a job in an occupied home.
When this applies
This applies to any job where the home is occupied. Member home cleanings,
follow up cleaning jobs, special projects, and shopping jobs.
It does not apply to turnover cleanings. A home should be vacant when you arrive for a turnover. If a member is still there, that is a different situation, so start a chat with
Landing rather than following the steps below.
If you are not sure whether a home is occupied, ask Landing before you set off.
Knock and announce yourself before you enter
Always knock and announce yourself. This is about the member's privacy and safety, and about yours.
Knock on the door. Wait 15 seconds.
Announce yourself clearly: "Hello, Landing Host!"
Knock a second time. Wait another 15 seconds.
If nobody comes to the door and you cannot hear anyone inside, open the door and announce yourself again: "Landing Host. Is anyone home?" Wait a further 15 seconds.
If there is still no answer and no sound, go in and start your job.
Do not skip the waiting. Roughly 45 seconds in total gives someone in the shower, asleep, or on a call a fair chance to reach the door.
If the member answers the door
Introduce yourself, say you are their Landing Host, and tell them which job you are there to do.
Check that now still works for them. If they would rather you came back later, do not push.
Start a chat with Landing and let them know, and Landing will sort out the timing.
If the member is home while you work
Work around them. Keep to the areas the job covers and give them space.
If they ask you to do something that is not part of your job, tell Landing rather than agreeing to it.
Never touch a member's belongings
Do not move, handle, or tidy a member's personal items, in any situation.
For a member home cleaning, the member is asked to pick up their personal items beforehand so you can clean all the surfaces. If their things are still out when you arrive, clean the surfaces you can reach without moving anything, and tell Landing what you could not get to.
Before you arrive
You are welcome to ask Landing whether a home is occupied before you travel to it. If knowing changes how you would plan the job, ask.
