Patient contact preferences

Written by Avi

Isla supports patient-level contact preferences across SMS and Email. This ensures clinical communications reach patients through their preferred channel.

How Communication Preferences & Fallbacks Work

All patients will have 'No preference' set by default. However, a patient's preferred communication method can be manually set to SMS or Email.

This means that any messages or requests will be sent via the preferred communication method.

If a patient has 'No preference' set and lacks a mobile phone number on file, the system automatically falls back to email to ensure messages are sent successfully.

How to Set or Update Patient Contact Preferences

  • Open the patient's record in Isla.

  • Click 'Edit' in the upper-right corner, then select 'Edit patient details'.

  • Scroll to 'Communication preference' and choose one of the following options:

  1. No preference

  2. SMS only

  3. Email only

  • Click 'Update' to save your changes.
