At Notabene, we have introduced a seamless process for our customers to enter their Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) number either during signup or within their existing profiles. By integrating the GLEIF API, our platform can access and retrieve high-quality legal entity reference data directly into VASPs' profiles. This data includes essential information such as the legal name, legal address, and registration status of the entities.

What is GLEIF?

GLEIF is a non-profit organization established by the Financial Stability Board (FSB) in 2014. It oversees the implementation and administration of the Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) system. The LEI is a unique 20-character alphanumeric code that enables the identification of legal entities engaging in financial transactions worldwide. GLEIF collaborates with various stakeholders, including regulators, businesses, and technology providers, to ensure seamless integration of LEIs into financial systems.

Enhancing Transparency and Trust

One of the key benefits of the LEI system is its ability to enhance transparency and trust in financial transactions. By assigning a unique identifier to each legal entity, the LEI system enables accurate and consistent identification across different jurisdictions. This helps reduce the ambiguity and complexity associated with identifying counterparties, mitigating risks and enhancing due diligence processes. Market participants can access the LEI database to verify the identity of their business partners, ensuring greater trust and confidence in financial transactions.

Streamlining Regulatory Compliance

Regulatory compliance is a significant challenge for businesses operating in a global marketplace. GLEIF plays a crucial role in streamlining regulatory compliance by promoting the adoption of LEIs. Many regulatory frameworks, such as MiFID II and EMIR in the European Union, mandate the use of LEIs for reporting and identifying legal entities involved in financial transactions. GLEIF's efforts in promoting LEI adoption contribute to harmonizing regulatory requirements globally and simplifying compliance processes for businesses across jurisdictions.

Facilitating Digital Transformation

As the digital economy expands, the need for standardized and reliable identification mechanisms becomes even more critical. GLEIF's LEI system facilitates digital transformation by providing a globally accepted identification standard for legal entities. Integration of LEIs into digital platforms, financial systems, and databases enables automated identity verification and enhances the efficiency of various business processes. It also enables the development of innovative solutions and technologies that leverage the power of standardized legal entity identification.

The integration of the GLEIF API enhances the transparency and reliability of the information available to our customers. It eliminates the need for manual data entry and reduces the risk of errors or outdated information. With real-time access to accurate legal entity reference data, you can confidently assess the legitimacy and credibility of your counterparts, enabling you to build trusted relationships and conduct business transactions more efficiently.
