My photo is sideways or upside down. How do I fix it?

Sometimes a device saves a photo with hidden orientation data (called metadata).

The image may look correct on your computer or phone, but after uploading, it can appear sideways or upside down.

You cannot rotate the photo within the program but don’t worry — this is easy to fix.

How to fix a rotated photo

  1. Open the original image in Preview or another photo editing program.

  2. Rotate the photo until it appears upright.

  3. Continue rotating until it completes a full 360-degree rotation.

  4. Save the image as a new file.

  5. Upload the new file to your cookbook.

Saving it as a new file refreshes the image orientation and usually resolves the issue.

Good to know

  • This does not mean your photo is damaged.

  • The issue is related to how the file was originally saved.

  • Once corrected and re-uploaded, it should display properly.

If the photo still appears rotated after trying these steps, please contact support and we’ll be happy to help.
