Why is there a yellow or red border around my page?

This article describes what to do if you see a red or yellow border around your page while in the book-building dashboard.

If the page you're working on has a yellow or red border around it, this is a signal that there you're getting close to having too much content for the page (yellow border), or you officially have too much content for the page and it's most likely getting cut off (red border).

Text that is too long for the page does not automatically continue onto a second page, so you’ll need to add another page and move the remaining text there manually. This only takes a minute to fix. 🙂

How to move part of a recipe onto a second page

  1. Click the teal + ADD EXTRA PAGE button in the bottom-right corner of the recipe page to add a second page:

  2. Return to the first page and scroll to the bottom.

  3. Highlight the text that doesn’t fit on the page.

  4. Copy the text (or cut it).

  5. Open the second page and paste the text there.

  6. Go back to the first page and delete the extra text so it only appears on page two.

Your recipe will now print correctly across both pages.

If your page has a red or yellow border around it but you're happy with how the page looks after downloading a Preview, you can ignore the warning. A red border doesn't always mean text has been cut off; it just means it's getting very, very close.

Why doesn’t the system automatically add a second page?

Many authors paste large sections of text into a recipe all at once, and the program can’t reliably determine the best place to split the content.

Because of this, we let you choose where the page break should go — so you can keep ingredient lists, instructions, or notes together exactly how you want them to appear in your printed cookbook.
