Updating your weight and tracking Body Composition Trends

Update your weight and target weight, and read your Body Composition Trends for weight, body fat, and skinfolds.

Use this article to update your current weight, target weight, and deficit or surplus, and to read your Body Composition Trends - your weight, body fat percentage, and skinfold measurements over time.

Understanding your body composition goal

Your Fuel Plan is built around your body composition goal, current weight, and target weight, so it's worth keeping these up to date. Your goal sets the direction of your Fuel Plan:

  • Lose - your objective is to lose weight and/or reduce fat without compromising your performance. Hexis builds a calorie deficit into your Fuel Plan at the most appropriate times of the week to support fat loss.

  • Maintain - your objective is to hold your current weight steady whilst supporting your performance. Hexis matches your energy intake with your energy expenditure on a daily basis.

  • Gain - your objective is to gain weight and/or build muscle. Hexis builds a calorie surplus into your Fuel Plan to support weight gain and muscle development.

Note: if you have a Competition or Key Performance session scheduled, fuelling your performance may take priority over your body composition goal at times — that's by design.

Updating your current and target weight

In the Athlete App:

  1. Open the Hexis app and tap More.

  2. Tap My Profile.

  3. Update your current weight or target weight and select Save.

Your updated weight is confirmed immediately and used in your next Fuel Plan calculation.

Adjusting your % deficit or % surplus (desktop app)

Athletes also have access to a desktop version of the Hexis app, where you can fine-tune how aggressive your Lose or Gain goal is:

  1. Log in to the Hexis desktop app.

  2. Go to Profile > Health & Performance.

  3. If your goal is set to Lose, use the Choose % Deficit slider to select your preferred deficit. If your goal is set to Gain, you'll see a Choose % Surplus slider instead.

  4. Your estimated weekly rate of change and estimated time to reach your target weight update automatically based on your selection.

Note: if you're working with a coach, they can also update your current weight, target weight, goal, and % deficit/surplus on your behalf - if something looks off, check with them first in case it was a deliberate adjustment.

Syncing body composition data automatically

If you use a connected device or app - for example, a smart scale or wearable - your body composition data, like weight, can be imported automatically through Hexis integrations rather than entered manually. See Wearable Integrations for how to connect and manage these.

Accessing Body Composition Trends

Open the Trends page to see your Body Composition Trends — charts for body weight, body fat percentage, and skinfolds, displayed together for a comprehensive view of your progress.

Here's a walkthrough of how to read them:

Understanding your weight trend

The body weight chart shows your weight progression over time using a blue trend line. Hexis uses this data, combined with your training schedule and body composition goals, to dynamically adjust your daily energy requirements and carb codes.

To add or update a weight entry:

  • From the Hexis Home screen: select Add, choose Body Weight, enter your weight, and save. You can backdate an entry by selecting a different date on the calendar.

  • From your profile: go to More > My Profile and update your current weight directly.

Understanding your body fat percentage trend

The body fat percentage chart shows your progress using an orange trend line. Add or update an entry the same way as body weight: select Add, choose Body Fat Percentage, enter your value, and save.

Tracking skinfold measurements

If you track skinfolds, Hexis supports monitoring using the sum of eight skinfold sites: abdominal, biceps, front thigh, iliac crest, medial calf, subscapular, supraspinale, and triceps.

To add a new skinfold entry:

  1. Select Add, then choose Skinfolds.

  2. Enter each measurement in millimetres.

  3. Save your entry - Hexis automatically calculates the total sum.

Expanding charts for detailed analysis

To explore any chart in more detail, select the right chevron and rotate your device into landscape mode. This makes it easier to examine individual data points across all Body Composition Trends.

Identifying recomposition patterns

Viewing weight, body fat percentage, and skinfolds together can help you spot recomposition patterns. For example, a stable body weight combined with a declining body fat percentage suggests fat loss with lean mass preservation.

How this feeds your nutrition targets

Your body composition data feeds directly into the Hexis engine to shape your daily nutrition targets. Your goal — lose, maintain, or gain — determines whether that's a calorie deficit, a maintenance target, or a surplus, and you can adjust the size of that deficit or surplus at any time using the steps above.

The accuracy and consistency of your body composition data directly affects the quality of your recommendations — regular, reliable tracking allows Hexis to fine-tune your energy targets and meal guidance so your nutrition strategy stays aligned with your goals and training demands.

Can my coach update my body composition data for me?

Yes. If you're working with a coach, they can update your current weight, target weight, goal, and % deficit/surplus on your behalf. If something looks different from what you expected, it's worth checking with your coach in case it was a deliberate adjustment as part of your plan.

Can I sync my body composition data automatically instead of entering it manually?

Yes. If you use a connected smart scale or wearable, your data can sync automatically through a Hexis integration - see Wearable Integrations to set this up.

Why does keeping this data accurate and up to date matter?

Your body composition data directly shapes your daily nutrition targets and Carb Coding™. Small, inconsistent, or outdated entries carry through to every target Hexis calculates for you, so accurate and regular tracking gives you the most precise recommendations.
