Getting started with Heyou

What to expect when you sign in to Heyou for the first time, how the extension fits in, and how the different sources connect over time.

Overview

Onboarding to Heyou takes you from a first sign-in to a working recommendations flow in a small number of steps. You sign in through your organization's identity provider, install the browser extension, connect the sources your team has decided to enable (LinkedIn to start; WhatsApp and others as your organization opts them in), and then Heyou begins scanning your network in the background. The first recommendations arrive as soon as there is enough signal to base them on.

Scope

This article covers:

Signing in

You sign in to Heyou through your organization's identity provider — the same one you use for other work applications. Heyou supports the standard enterprise sign-in options (Google Workspace, Microsoft Entra, and other SAML/OIDC identity providers), so there is no separate Heyou password to manage. Your roles inside Heyou come from the identity provider and update on your next sign-in whenever your organization changes them.

The browser extension

Most of what Heyou reads about your network comes through the Heyou browser extension. The extension runs in your own browser, reads only through your own signed-in sessions on LinkedIn (and, if enabled, WhatsApp), and never stores your credentials for those services. You install it once, from the Chrome Web Store, and grant it permission for the specific sites your organization has enabled.

How the extension protects your accounts and what it does and does not read is covered in LinkedIn in Heyou and, where applicable, WhatsApp in Heyou.

Connecting your sources

Heyou is designed to work with more than one source of relationship information. Most organizations begin with LinkedIn, which the browser extension covers. Additional sources — WhatsApp, calendar, CRM — are opted in at the organization level by your Heyou point of contact, and each user then confirms the source individually before it becomes active. Sources you have not enabled stay dormant and read nothing.

While the first scan runs

The first time Heyou reads your LinkedIn network, it builds an initial picture of who you know and how strong those relationships are. For a small network this completes within your first session; for a network with thousands of connections and years of conversation history, it can take multiple sessions to finish. Heyou handles this in the background — you can use LinkedIn normally in the meantime — and picks up where it left off when you return.

Recommendations begin appearing as soon as there is enough signal to base them on. They become richer as the scan completes and as more of your enabled sources come online.

Recent enhancements

The most recent additions to this module. New entries are added by Heyou's release process.

  • August 2026 — The first-time scan of your LinkedIn network now completes reliably even for users with very large networks, resuming across multiple sessions instead of restarting.

  • July 2026 — A WhatsApp onboarding step was added for organizations that have enabled the WhatsApp source. Onboarding also no longer opens the Heyou dashboard automatically at unexpected moments — it waits for you.

  • June 2026 — Microsoft sign-in was added alongside the existing options. If your extension is not installed when you sign in, Heyou now shows a banner rather than sending you back through the onboarding flow.

If you have a question about setting up Heyou or a step that did not go as expected, reply to any Heyou email or open the in-product chat — our team responds to every message.
