To use the Hideez Dongle as a Bluetooth adapter on Mac computers, like with other Bluetooth adapters for Macs, it is not enough to just plug it into a USB port on your computer.

There are two ways to get the Hideez Dongle to work on your Mac and both require you to run through a couple additional steps. Option 1 is to use the utility Bluetooth Explorer and Option 2 is to enter a special command through the Terminal.

Either way will work, please pick the option that is most convenient for you. Note that when the system switches to Hideez Dongle, previous Bluetooth connections will be lost and all devices will need to be reconnected. You will need to do this once and all settings will be saved for the future.

Option 1. Bluetooth Explorer utility

1. Install the Bluetooth Explorer:

2. Follow the instructions from the video:

Important: If you are using a Bluetooth keyboard and/or mouse, you will lose the connection to these devices. Either connect non-Bluetooth peripherals, or be ready to use the ones that are built into your laptop. To get them back, go to “System Settings” > “Bluetooth” and re-pair your devices - the settings will be saved for the future. Restart the computer.

Option 2. Commands via Terminal

You can send a special command to the system through the terminal (command line), which will allow the system to use the Hideez Dongle by default for Bluetooth devices.

In the Terminal window, enter the following command:

sudo nvram bluetoothHostControllerSwitchBehavior=always

The next time you turn on your computer, the system will use the Hideez Dongle. If Hideez Dongle is plugged in, the system will use it for your Bluetooth devices, and if it is not available, it will reconnect the Bluetooth devices to the system adapter.

To make the system adapter your default again, you must open Terminal and enter a special command to cancel the previous setting:

sudo nvram -d bluetoothHostControllerSwitchBehavior

After restarting the computer, your Mac will use the system Bluetooth adapter (if available).
