Homeroom gives you several ways to offer discounts to families. This article covers all discount types and how to configure them.
Where do I go to configure discounts?
Go to Setup in the left-hand navigation, then click the Payment Tools tab. Scroll down to the Discounts section and click the edit icon in the top right-hand corner. Click Add Discount to begin.
What is the difference between a Code and Sibling discount?
Code — A general discount code that any family can use at checkout. For example, create code SAVE10 to give volunteers a 10% discount.
Sibling — Automatically applied to any child after the first. Families with multiple children get the discount without needing a code. Only one active sibling discount can exist per site.
Can I create multiple discount codes?
Yes. You can create as many codes as you need. If a family applies more than one, Homeroom automatically uses the one that gives the greatest savings.
How do I turn off a discount code?
In the Status column, change the code from Active to Draft. The code will stop working at checkout immediately.
Requestable Discounts
Requestable discounts let families apply for a discount at checkout — but the charge doesn't go through until you approve it. This is ideal for financial assistance programs or need-based pricing.
How it works:
Setup — Create the discount under Setup > Discounts. Set the name and amount or percentage.
Family requests at checkout — Families see the option to request the discount before completing payment.
You approve or deny — You'll be notified of requests and can approve or deny each one. No charge goes through until you decide.
Payment finalizes — If approved, the family is charged the reduced amount. If denied, they'll be prompted to pay the full price.
Note: Only approved requests result in a charge. Unapproved requests are never billed.
Can I apply an attendance-based discount?
Yes, for activities using usage-based pricing. Go to the activity's Billing tab, scroll to the Billed Later section, then scroll right to find the Attendance Discount (%) column. Double-click the cell for a student to enter a percentage discount.
