Organizer: Connecting Blackbaud to Homeroom

How a school administrator connects their Blackbaud environment to Homeroom to sync student data and attendance.

Homeroom can sync student data and attendance directly from your school's Blackbaud environment. This guide walks a school administrator through the full setup, start to finish.

The setup has two sides:

  1. In Blackbaud — authorize the Homeroom app to access your school's environment.

  2. In Homeroom — connect to Blackbaud and choose what syncs.

Before you start

You'll need:

  • Marketplace Admin rights in Blackbaud. Only a user with these rights can authorize a new app for your school's environment. If you're not sure whether you have them, check your Blackbaud permissions here: Blackbaud Marketplace permissions.

  • The right Blackbaud permissions on the account that connects. The user who authorizes the connection in Step 2 must have all of the following permissions in Blackbaud, or the sync won't work:

    • SKY API Data Sync

    • Attendance Manager

    • One of: Platform Manager, Academic Group Manager, Schedule Manager, or Academics Group Manager

This is the most common reason a connection appears to succeed but no data comes through. If you're unsure who has these, check with whoever manages your Blackbaud roles before you start.

  • Admin access in Homeroom for your school.

  • The Integrations tab visible in Homeroom (Setup → Integrations). If you don't see it, the integration hasn't been enabled for your school yet — reach out to your Homeroom contact and we'll turn it on.

Step 1 — Authorize Homeroom in Blackbaud

In Blackbaud, you connect any SKY app to your environment from your Marketplace → Manage tab using the app's App ID. Homeroom's App ID is:

48f730a0-4f8d-4c34-9958-b6c407827374

  1. Sign in to Blackbaud with your Marketplace Admin account.

  2. Go to Marketplace → Manage.

  3. Connect a new app using Homeroom's App ID above, then approve the requested access.

Alternatively, this link signs you in and opens the Homeroom app listing directly, ready to connect: Sign in and open the Homeroom app.

If your IT or Blackbaud team needs the detailed technical steps, Blackbaud documents the process here: Connect applications to environments.

Step 2 — Connect from Homeroom

The person who completes this step should be signed in to Blackbaud with an account that has the permissions listed in Before you start (SKY API Data Sync, Attendance Manager, and one of Platform Manager, Academic Group Manager, Schedule Manager, or Academics Group Manager). The sync runs under this account's access, so if it's missing a permission, data won't come through.

  1. Log in to Homeroom and open your school's Setup → Integrations tab.

  2. In the Blackbaud integration panel, click Connect to Blackbaud.

  3. You'll be sent to Blackbaud to sign in and authorize. Approve the connection.

  4. You'll land back in Homeroom on the Integrations tab. When it's linked you'll see "Connected to Blackbaud environment: [your environment name]".

If the connection doesn't complete, confirm Step 1 was done by a user with Marketplace Admin rights, then try Connect to Blackbaud again.

Step 3 — Choose what syncs

Once connected, two more panels appear.

School level filtering

Select which Blackbaud school levels (e.g. Lower School, Middle School) sync to Homeroom.

  • Leave everything unchecked to sync all students.

  • School levels only appear here after the first sync runs, so if the list is empty, check back after the next sync.

Attendance sync

Control whether Homeroom pulls attendance from Blackbaud:

  • Off — don't sync attendance.

  • Sync most recent before Homeroom activities begin (recommended) — uses each student's last Blackbaud attendance status recorded before their first Homeroom activity.

  • Continue syncing during activities — keeps pulling Blackbaud attendance until Homeroom activities end. Use this only if your Blackbaud and Homeroom activities overlap and attendance may change after activities start.

If you turn attendance sync on, you'll also choose what happens when a student has no Blackbaud attendance record:

  • Ignore (recommended) — the student is skipped and their Homeroom attendance isn't changed.

  • Mark absent — the student is marked absent.

Save your selections in each panel.

Disconnecting

To unlink Blackbaud, go to Setup → Integrations, click Disconnect in the Blackbaud integration panel, and confirm. This stops all syncing.

Troubleshooting

  • Connection succeeds but no data (or no attendance) syncs → the account that connected is likely missing a required Blackbaud permission. Confirm it has SKY API Data Sync, Attendance Manager, and one of Platform Manager, Academic Group Manager, Schedule Manager, or Academics Group Manager, then reconnect from Setup → Integrations.

  • "Connect to Blackbaud" doesn't finish → Step 1 likely wasn't completed by a Marketplace Admin. Have an admin authorize the Homeroom app in Blackbaud first, then retry.

  • No Integrations tab in Homeroom → the integration isn't enabled for your school. Contact Homeroom.

  • School levels list is empty → levels populate after the first sync. Check back later.
