Setting a smart file default name format

How to set default name formats for your shared smart files

Updated over a week ago

Rather than adjusting the names of your smart files every time you get ready to share one, now you can set a default name format. Whenever you add a smart file template to a project, or send one via an Automation, the name will be automatically generated using the format selected in your Preferences.

PLEASE NOTE: At this time, there are three format options for smart file names: template name, project name + template name, and project name + smart file type. If you prefer something else, you’ll still have the option to edit the names of your smart files from within the builder before sharing with clients!

To set a default name format:

1. The default name format for smart files is controlled from your Company Settings. First, from any page, click your profile photo in the top right corner of your screen.

2. Select Company Settings from the menu.

3. Select the Preferences tab.

4. Scroll to the Default Name Format section. You’ll have the option to adjust the default name for two types of smart files:

  • Smart files created via templates

  • Smart files created via automations

Next to each smart file type, select the default name format of your choice from the drop-down. You can choose to generate smart file names as the:

  • Template name*

  • Project name + template name*

  • Project name + smart file type

  • *HoneyBook Tip: Template names are set under your Templates page. To adjust the name of any template, navigate to Tools > My Templates, click to open the smart file template, and type into the name field to the top left of your screen. Once you’re done, be sure to select Update Template to save your new template name.
