How to apply tax to your packages and items

Updated over a week ago

You can apply tax to your packages and items with just a few clicks.

๐Ÿ“ฃ NOTE

In HoneyBook, tax is applied to specific goods and services. If youโ€™re seeing the tax amount unintentionally showing $0 in an invoice, go through your file and check off tax for the appropriate packages/items by following the steps below.

Apply tax in an invoice

1. First, locate the file that contains the taxable package or item, and click to open.

๐Ÿ“š Tip

Looking to set a default tax rate? There's no universal setting for tax, but we do recommend setting tax on a template level. That way, whenever you use the template, tax will already be applied and at the right rate. You can always remove or edit tax on a file-by-file basis.

To edit your templates, just navigate to Tools > My Templates and use filters to locate all of your invoice templates.

2. Make sure that you've toggled tax on and set the tax rate from the invoice settings.

3. Under the Tax column, check the box by the taxable package or item.

๐Ÿ“š Tip

Don't see a Tax column? It might be hidden You can:

  • Make this column visible under the invoice's design settings, then check the box in the now-visible Tax column

  • Keep this column hidden, but still apply tax to the package or item by clicking the outline of the package or item > checking off the Tax box in the Service item settings sidebar that appears

That's it! Tax will now be applied to your package/item using the rate you set, and will be factored into your invoice totals for clients.

Apply tax in a package template

1. From any page, click the Tools menu > Templates.

2. Select Package from the list of template options on the left side of the screen.

3. Locate the package template you'd like to edit, and click to open.

4. In the tax column, just check tax off.

That's it! Tax will now be applied to your package/item. When you add the package/item to an invoice, the tax will automatically update using the rate you set in the invoice.
