For children starting at the Pre-Reader level, it is recommended that a grown-up read the physical books to the child to start. We provide tips on each page of the workbook (subtitled "READ" in the top right corner) including suggestions for engaging your child during story time together. For example, have your child raise their hand every time they hear a rhyme, or ask your child to hunt for letters they learned throughout the lesson. Tips are included throughout the workbooks in the Pre-Reader section to help guide you, and ensure your child has the opportunity to apply their new skills in a fun, inclusive way!
We've also included eBooks in the Pre-Reader section of the App, which have a read-to-me feature that highlights each word as it is spoken to guide your child through the story. The systematic vocabulary builds on previous lessons, directly corresponding to the new content taught in the preceding lessons. It also aids your child with the basic concepts of print, such as following words from left to right, top to bottom, and page by page as a book is read. Children become familiar with these letter patterns and the sounds they represent, enabling them to decode more and more words they encounter in reading.
