What Data Does Hoot Use?
Your Smart Weight Target is created from a few simple details you enter when setting up your profile:
Current weight
Target weight
Height
Age
Gender
Activity level
Desired pace of progress (e.g., 0.5–2 lbs per week)
Hoot combines this information to estimate your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE)—the calories you burn in a day—and then sets an appropriate calorie goal for your target.
How the Math Works
Hoot’s calculations are based on the Mifflin-St Jeor formula, the gold standard in nutrition science.
Your calorie target starts with your daily energy needs, adjusted for activity.
Hoot then applies a safe calorie deficit or surplus depending on your goal.
Your macros are distributed using evidence-based defaults:
