Hoot is built on personalization, accuracy, and trust. To deliver a customized nutrition plan, calculate targets correctly, and give you helpful insights, Hoot collects a small set of essential information. We never sell user data, and we only collect what we need to make the app work as intended.

Below is a breakdown of what we collect and why it matters.

1. Profile Information

We collect basic details you provide during onboarding and setup:

  • Name

  • Age

  • Gender

  • Height

  • Weight (current & goal)

  • Diet style

  • Foods you avoid

  • Activity level

  • Login method (email, Apple, Google, Facebook)

Why: These fields power your personalized calorie target, macro plan, water target, and insights. Without them, Hoot cannot calculate accurate recommendations.

2. Food, Meal, and Water Logs

This includes:

  • Text-based entries

  • Voice-to-text logs

  • Photo logs & label scans

  • Barcode scans

  • Saved favorites

  • Water intake

  • Weight entries

Why: Logs allow Hoot’s AI to calculate calories, macros, Nutrition Scores, streaks, and trend data—everything needed to help you improve habits over time.

3. Device Information

We may collect:

  • IP address

  • Device type

  • Operating system

  • App version

  • Time zone

Why: Helps us ensure proper performance, troubleshoot issues, and improve stability.

4. Crash Logs & Error Reports

Anonymous diagnostic data may include:

  • Crash logs

  • Error codes

  • Performance data

Why: This lets our team quickly fix bugs and improve reliability. Crash logs never include your meal photos or personal health information.

5. Usage Data (Anonymized)

This includes generalized usage patterns like:

  • Feature interactions

  • Logging frequency

  • Which logging methods are most used

Why: Helps refine features, optimize design, and understand what’s useful for users—all anonymized and non-identifiable.

6. Payment & Subscription Data

Handled securely by Apple/Google. Hoot only receives:

  • Plan type (Monthly/Annual)

  • Subscription status

  • Renewal date

  • Promo code usage

Why: To ensure uninterrupted access to your premium features and allow “Restore Purchases.”

What Hoot Does Not Collect

  • No biometrics (heart rate, steps, etc.)

  • No audio files (voice logs convert to text instantly then are discarded)

  • No precise location tracking

  • No third-party marketing data

  • No selling of any user data

  • No use of your photos for AI training
