What Is Recalculate Plan?

Recalculate Plan updates your daily calorie and macro recommendations using your latest profile information.

It’s designed for moments when:

  • Your weight has changed

  • Your activity level is different than when you started

  • You want to adjust your weekly pace

  • Your original plan needs correcting

  • You’re returning to Hoot after a break

Instead of relying on old assumptions, Hoot recalculates your plan using your current data.

What You Can Edit

You can update the following at any time:

  • Primary goal (lose, maintain, or gain)

  • Starting weight (your original baseline from onboarding)

  • Current weight (your actual weight today)

  • Goal weight

  • Activity level

  • Weekly pace (rate of weight loss or gain)

These settings are located at:
Settings → Goals & Macros

Weight can also be logged and updated from the Progress tab. Any weight update—no matter where it’s made—can be followed by Recalculate Plan to refresh your targets.

How to Recalculate Your Plan

  1. Go to Settings → Goals & Macros

  2. Edit one or more fields (weight, activity level, pace, etc.)

  3. Tap Recalculate Plan

  4. Review the updated plan preview:

    • Daily calories

    • Macros (protein, carbs, fat)

    • Any changes from your current plan

  5. Tap Apply Changes to confirm

Nothing is applied automatically—you always review changes first.

What Happens When You Recalculate

Recalculating will:

  • Update your daily calorie target

  • Recalculate your macros

  • Apply changes going forward

Recalculating will not:

  • Change past food logs

  • Reset streaks

  • Erase progress or history

Your data stays intact. Only your future targets are updated.

Do I Need to Recalculate Every Time I Edit a Field?

No—but it’s recommended.

You can edit fields without recalculating, but because those inputs affect calorie and macro recommendations, recalculating ensures your plan reflects the full picture.

If your goal, activity level, or pace changes, recalculating helps keep your plan accurate and supportive.

When Should I Use Recalculate Plan?

Use it if:

  • You’ve lost or gained weight

  • Your workouts or daily movement changed

  • You want to slow down or speed up your pace

  • You’re restarting after time away

  • There was an issue with your original setup

There’s no limit to how often you can recalculate.

Why Hoot Shows a Preview First

Hoot always shows you what’s changing before applying updates so you can:

  • Understand the impact

  • Avoid surprises

  • Stay in control of your plan

Nothing changes unless you approve it.

Important Note

Hoot uses research-backed formulas (including Mifflin–St Jeor) to estimate calorie needs. These are estimates, not medical advice.

If you’re working with a clinician or managing a medical condition, adjust your plan to match professional guidance.
