Hoot syncs data with Apple Health in two directions -- pulling in your activity data and sending back your nutrition logs. Here's exactly what gets shared.
Data Hoot Reads from Apple Health
Hoot pulls in activity and body data to give you a more complete picture of your day:
Data | What It Means |
Active Energy | Calories you burn through movement and exercise |
Resting Energy | Calories your body burns at rest to keep you alive |
Steps | Your daily step count |
Weight | Body weight logged by other apps or a smart scale |
This data can come from your iPhone, Apple Watch, a smart scale, or any other app connected to Apple Health.
Data Hoot Writes to Apple Health
When you log food, water, or weight in Hoot, the following is sent to Apple Health:
Data | Where It Comes From in Hoot |
Dietary Energy (calories) | Your food logs |
Protein | Your food logs |
Carbohydrates | Your food logs |
Total Fat | Your food logs |
Saturated Fat | Your food logs |
Dietary Sugar | Your food logs |
Fiber | Your food logs |
Dietary Cholesterol | Your food logs |
Sodium | Your food logs |
Water | Your water logs |
Weight | Your weight logs |
Why This Matters
With Apple Health acting as a central hub, your Hoot data works alongside data from your other health and fitness apps. Your doctor, a connected wearable, or another app can see your nutrition data without you having to enter it twice.
What Hoot Doesn't Access
Hoot does not read or write any data beyond what's listed above. It does not access your heart rate, sleep, workouts, medications, or any other Apple Health categories.
How to Change What's Shared
You can adjust permissions at any time in iOS Settings > Health > Data Access & Devices > Hoot. Turning off a toggle stops that specific data from syncing going forward -- it won't delete any data already recorded.
