How to Disconnect Apple Health from Hoot

How to turn off Apple Health syncing and manage your data permissions.

If you'd like to stop syncing data between Hoot and Apple Health, you have two options depending on how much you want to disconnect.

Option 1: Turn It Off in Hoot

  1. Open Hoot and go to Settings.

  2. Tap Apple Health.

  3. Toggle the connection off.

This stops Hoot from reading or writing any data to Apple Health going forward. It's the quickest way to disconnect and you can turn it back on anytime.

Option 2: Revoke Permissions in iOS Settings

If you want to fully remove Hoot's access at the system level:

  1. Open iOS Settings.

  2. Tap Health.

  3. Tap Data Access & Devices.

  4. Tap Hoot.

  5. Turn off any or all of the toggles for reading and writing.

This is useful if you want to keep some permissions active but remove others -- for example, letting Hoot write your nutrition data but stopping it from reading your steps.

What Happens to My Data?

  • Data already written to Apple Health stays there. Disconnecting Hoot doesn't delete nutrition, water, or weight entries that were previously synced. If you want to remove those, you'll need to delete them directly in Apple Health.

  • Data already in Hoot stays there too. Your food logs, water logs, and weight history in Hoot are not affected by disconnecting Apple Health.

  • Activity data stops updating. Steps and calories burned in Hoot will stop refreshing once you disconnect. Any activity data already shown in Hoot will remain as-is.

Want to Reconnect Later?

Just follow the setup steps again in Settings > Apple Health or from the prompt on your dashboard. If you previously revoked permissions in iOS Settings, you'll need to re-enable them there as well -- Hoot will walk you through it.
