Why Filter by Industry?

The answer here is simple. When benchmarking roles for your organisation, you'll want to compare like with like. You may have tried keyword search to add industry context, or used organisation search to check for competitors, but now you can turn to our industry filter for a more comprehensive view of the organisations and industries that are important to you.

Not all industries operate the same—why should pay monitoring be any different?

Industry filtering lets you compare salaries and pay trends within your specific sector, ensuring relevance and accuracy. Ensure your pay structure remains competitive within your industry, reducing turnover risk.

What's changing?

The industry filter will be found in the left-hand navigation, just underneath keyword search, as shown below. You will have the option to include or exclude as many industries as you like. Once you have selected your chosen industries you will have to click 'apply' to see the updated results.

You'll notice we have also included a job post 'count' on the right-hand side of each industry, giving you a preview of the total results you can expect once your industry selections have been made.

The industry attached to each job post will also be shown in the results table. The column for industry can be found between salary and organisation, as shown below.

Important note

For now, the classification of industries will be limited to one industry per job post.

This means that if you are benchmarking for an organisation that covers multiple industries, or competes with organisations covering multiple industries, you should be looking to include many, or all of them, in your benchmark for the most accurate results.

How does it work?

Our Data team has trained a Large Language Model (via OpenAI) to identify the likely industry of an organisation based on the job post provided.

The model rigorously, using manually tested sample datasets from the HR DataHub database along with Companies House information.

A large subset of the HR DataHub database of job posts is provided by Recruitment agencies. These are handled by identifying these organisations as Recruiters with the Organisation name (via Companies House) and then analysing the Job Post to determine the Industry of the hiring Organisation where possible. This is not always possible, and will at times result in 'unknowns' (see below for more clarification).

This Industry property is then associated with each job post in our database and surfaced in the platform. You can filter results of their search to Include or Exclude specific Industries.

If we have a low confidence score for an Industry match, this will instead be given the Industry classification of ‘Unknown’. This could be for several reasons, but the most likely is that the Organisation is unfamiliar or the Job Description is poorly described or ambiguous.

We expect this feature to work well in conjunction with 'My Saved Searches' to provide you with a more comprehensive view of the job market, and also allow you to revisit these searches with ease.
