OVERVIEW
Our Compensation Calculator has been designed to help you calculate weekly compensation entitlements payable to the injured worker and track claimed and reimbursed amounts from your Insurer.
To access this tool, from within a record, expand the Financials heading in the side menu, and select the Compensation Calculator heading.
UNDERSTANDING HOW COMPENSATION IS CALCULATED
It is recommended that you become familiar with the legislation and guidelines within the relevant jurisdiction before using this tool.
ENTER COMPENSATION CALCULATOR DETAILS
To get started, you need to input a few details to ensure the calculator functions correctly.
At the top of the page, click on the Edit button and a pop-up will appear, allowing you to enter your details. In the table below, we've listed each field, along with a definition for each.
The below fields are all required to accurately calculate compensation and we recommend entering these as soon as you have the details.
Field | Definition |
Pre-Injury Weekly Rate of Income | Average Weekly Earnings is the average weekly earnings for the 12 months before the date of injury, including Overtime and/or Shift Allowances. |
PIWRI (27+weeks) | Average Weekly Earnings (27 wks +) is the average weekly earnings excluding Overtime and/or Shift Allowances. Please enter the 85% rate payable here. |
Hourly Rate | Hourly Rate is the current normal hourly rate. |
Pre-Injury Hours | Pre-injury hours are the normal or average hours worked before the injury. |
Then, if relevant, complete these optional fields:
Field | Definition |
Pay Code | Pay Codes may be applicable if your organisation has more than one pay cycle / pay run. Pay Codes can be set up in SolvInjury by Admin users, via the Admin > Categories menu. |
Make-Up Pay | To be used if your organisation provides make-up pay in addition to statutory weekly compensation (you may need to check the relevant award or EBA). Tick the Make Up Pay checkbox, then enter the number of weeks that make-up pay is applicable for, and the amount that it will be paid up to. |
Pre July/2024 Entitlements | Select this checkbox if you need to use the pre July 2024 entitlement method. Selecting this will change the title of fields/calculations used. |
Once the relevant Claim Compensation Details have been entered, click Save.
CALCULATING WEEKLY COMPENSATION
Before weekly compensation can be calculated, you must identify the first day that compensation is payable (i.e. typically the first day in which time lost occurred).
Select the appropriate date and click Save.
To calculate the weekly compensation payable, enter the total number of hours lost and the total number of hours worked for the whole week, in the applicable boxes under Next Entitlement Week.
Field | Definition |
Unfit | Enter any hours that were lost from work when the worker was unfit for any duties. |
Restricted Duties - Lost | Enter the hours lost from work when the worker was fit for restricted duties. |
Restricted Duties - Worked | Enter the hours actually worked whilst the worker was fit for restricted duties (i.e. on a RTW Plan). SolvInjury will estimate the earnings based on the hourly rate and hours, though this can be overwritten in the Earnings field. |
Non-Compensation | If applicable, enter any hours during the week that were not related to Workers Compensation. SolvInjury will estimate the earnings based on the hourly rate and hours, though this can be overwritten in the Earnings field. |
Once the hours have been entered, click the Generate button.
The 'Copy from Previous' button allows you to copy the previous entry without having to manually re-type in the hours saving you some time where details may remain the same.
The system will calculate the weekly compensation payable, in line with the relevant legislation and statutory maximums, and display the result in the Weekly Entitlements section. Rate reductions will be automatically applied at relevant milestones.

RECORD REIMBURSEMENT DETAILS
You can track if each weekly entitlement is claimed (sent to your insurer for reimbursement) and recovered (recovered from your insurer).
To track when each task has been completed for a weekly entitlement you can use the toggle located in each row, or via the edit option for each weekly entitlement.
The system will automatically record the compensation amount as the Claimed/Recovered amount, however, if the claimed amount is not the full amount or a partial recovery is received, you can update the value manually.
Click the context menu icon on the left-hand side of the week and select the Edit option.
A pop-up will appear allowing you to modify dates, and amounts or add a remittance number if necessary.
Once you've made your changes, remember to hit Save.
There is also the ability to mark multiple weeks as claimed and/or recovered within the Weekly Entitlements section.
Using the checkboxes to the right of the weekly entitlement, select the week/s you want to update. To quickly select all Weekly Entitlements, use the checkbox at the top of this section (within the blue header).
Once you've selected the relevant rows, click on the dollar ($) sign symbol.
You will be asked if you want to proceed with the update. Simply select Yes or No.
Note that selected compensation records will be marked as recovered for their claimed amounts. Any unclaimed records will also be marked as claimed.
Once you've made your selection, the Weekly Entitlements section will update automatically.
DELETE WEEKLY ENTITLEMENTS
Under the Weekly Entitlements section, you are able to delete weeks as required. To delete a week, select the '...' icon to the right of the row, then select Delete (as seen below). Only the latest Weekly Entitlement is able to be deleted this way.
Weekly Entitlements can be deleted in bulk, if required, by selecting multiple Weekly Entitlements and using the 'trash' icon.
Some rules for how this works apply:
Only consecutive weeks can be deleted together, and the latest week must always be included when using the bulk delete functionality.
For accounts with Compensation Approval enabled, users will have the option to null all Weekly Payments linked to the deleted weeks.
CEASE PAYMENTS
To enter an exclusion period where compensation is not to be paid (eg: a suspension or termination period), update the 'Cease Payments From' and 'Cease Payments To' fields in the Claim Payroll Details section. If a user attempts to process entitlement weeks during the exclusion period, a pop up alert will display to prompt review.
EXPORT WEEKLY ENTITLEMENTS
Within the Weekly Entitlement section, you can export all the details of the weekly entitlement records or a selection of records.
To export all weekly entitlement records that exist, simply select the Export icon located at the top of the section.
If you only need a selection of records, select the relevant week (using the tickbox), followed by the Export button.
An example of the exported weekly entitlements is shown below;
EMAIL WEEKLY COMPENSATION DETAILS
To email the weekly compensation details to another party i.e. your Insurer or payroll department, you need to click the small arrow found next to the blue Edit button at the top of the page and select the Email Entitlements option.
You will be prompted to enter a Start and End date to determine what information is included in the attachment to be emailed.
You will also be asked if you want to mark the reimbursements as claimed. Simply select your preference using the Yes or No radio buttons.
Lastly, click on 'Email' to generate the file.
When entering the Start and End date range, you must ensure the full entitlement period has been chosen. Take note of the From Date within the Weekly Entitlements section first, and ensure that Week From Date is entered into the Start Date field. If a date is entered part-way through a weekly entitlement week, it will not be included in the export.
You will be directed to the email page where you can enter the recipients of the email, update the subject line and email body as well as include additional attachments from the Resources page.
Click Email to send the email.
A copy of the email will be stored in the Notes section.
