How to enable Zinc integration

Our integration with Zinc adds completed background check reports directly to your employee profiles.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Zinc is a global background checking platform that automates pre-employment screening, including criminal record checks, employment references, right-to-work verification, and more, across 190+ countries.

This guide explains how to connect Zinc to Humaans and how the integration works once enabled.

Before you begin

  • This integration is available on Growth and Enterprise plans.

  • You need admin access in Humaans to configure integrations.

  • You need access to the company settings section in your Zinc account to generate an API key.

  • This integration does not send data from Humaans to Zinc. It imports background check reports from Zinc to Humaans.

  • Reports sync automatically on an hourly basis for employees who were hired or added to Humaans within the last month.

Generating an API key in Zinc

To connect the integration, you first need an API key from Zinc. To retrieve this, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your Zinc account.

  2. Scroll down to HRIS integrations, click Humaans.

  3. Click Generate API key.

  4. Copy the API key - you’ll need this in later steps.

Enabling the Zinc integration in Humaans

Once you’ve copied the API key, you’ll need to paste it in Humaans.

  1. In Humaans, click Integrations.

  2. Click the Security & IT tab, or scroll to find Zinc.

  3. Click Configure.

  4. Paste your Zinc API key into the API key field.

  5. Click Save.

Once saved, Humaans will confirm the integration is linked. You can return to view the connection status, update the API key, or disconnect the integration.

How the sync works

Once the integration is active, Humaans checks Zinc every hour for completed background check reports.

  • The integration looks for employees with a status of active or new hire who were hired or added within the last month.

  • It matches employees by their personal email address, so ensure this is consistent between Humaans and Zinc.

  • Only reports with a status of "all-clear" or "reviewed" in Zinc are imported.

  • Each report is saved as a PDF document on the employee's Humaans profile within the Zinc Background Checks document type.

  • A report is only imported once to avoid duplicates being created.

Disconnecting the Zinc integration

If you need to remove the connection:

  1. In Humaans, click Integrations.

  2. Click the Security & IT tab or scroll to find Zinc.

  3. Click Configure.

  4. Click Disconnect.

Previously imported reports remain on employee profiles after disconnecting.

Viewing the background check report

To view the background check in Humaans, open the Documents section of the user’s profile, and click View, the report will open in a new tab.
