Multi-week working patterns
Updated over a week ago

Working patterns can span multiple weeks with varying hours and working days. In this guide, you'll learn:

  • How to set up a multi-week working patterns.

  • How to effectively schedule multi-week working patterns for new employees.

Adding a multi-week working pattern

  • In the Home menu, click Settings, then click Company.

  • Scroll to Working patterns, then click Add working pattern.

  • Set up the working pattern according to your needs. To learn more, see Managing working patterns.

  • If you want to add multiple weeks of varying days and hours, click Add week.

You can add up to four separate weeks of varying patterns. After the four weeks, the pattern will repeat itself.

Multi-week working patterns and effective dates

Working patterns will start from week 1, coinciding with the day of the week of the effective date.

Likewise, when a new member is assigned a multi-week pattern, they will start on the first week of the working pattern, coinciding with the day of the week of the Employment start date.

This may not suit when you want multiple users to follow the same multi-week working pattern at the same time. If you want these users to all follow the pattern in unison, we have three recommendations on how to achieve this.

  1. Do not edit existing working patterns to include multi-week working patterns! This will backdate the changes to the effective date of each employee (which will, in most cases, be their employment start date). This will result in all employees starting the pattern at different times.

  2. Select an effective date for all desired members to move to your new working pattern. For example, apply the new working pattern to start on January 1, 2024, or the Monday closest to that date. This can be done individually through each member's Employment section. You can also update this in bulk through Tables.

  3. For new joiners, first create a custom working pattern for them that will assign them the desired pattern until the multi-week pattern is due to repeat. You can schedule the new joiner to then have the working pattern apply to them moving forward. This will ensure that all users follow the same schedule of the pattern.
