This guide will walk you through the steps to set up tenure-based accruals for employee time away policies in your Humaans account.
Add Tenure-Based Accruals
You can add tenure based accruals when creating a time away policy. See Creating a time away policy for more information.
In the Time away policy edit menu, click on the desired type, then click Add tenure based accrual next to Annual allocation.
Define the initial amount of days.
Add the first accural by clicking Add period. Accruals can be set based on years and months.
Adjust and add further accruals as needed.
When you're ready, save your changes.
Tenure-based accruals are calculated from the employee's employment start date. For example, if an employee started in 2022, by the 2025 policy period, they would be in their third year and receive the corresponding accrual days for three years of service.
You can create different types of accruals for various time away types, not just for Paid time off.
Creating a new policy vs editing an existing one
In most cases, it is recommended to create a new policy/policies rather than editing an existing one. Changes to an existing policy will backdate to all the previous years the policy has been applied to employees, which can cause unexpected balances.
You can apply the new policy to users at the beginning of the next year or for the current year, depending on your organisational needs.
However, if you do want the tenure based accruals to back date for previous years of user blaances, you can edit the existing policies. Note that this may add additonal days to user blaances in the previous years however.
