If you’ve been involved in a controversy, whether it was highly publicized or not, cybercriminals can use that information for extortion and blackmail. Even if it is based on truth or rumor, the wrong information can be made public in moments if the hacker does not receive what they’re looking for–which can simply be a malicious act without a reward in mind
