All raincoats from ILSE JACOBSEN HORNBÆK have a rating describing their resistance against water - this rating is referred to as "water column pressure" often referred to in a shortened version: W/P.

Water column pressure rating

Suitable use

3.000 mm.

Withstands light rain for several hours. Suitable for light use, walking and as a spring and summer protection against rain, as these coats typically are thin and light.

5.000 mm.

Withstands light and moderate rain for several hours. Withstands heavy rain for short periods. Suitable for cycling to and from work, nature walkings and city usage.

10.000 mm.

Withstands heavy rain for several hours. Suitable for use in nature, long walks in nature, cycling for longer periods in rough rain conditions.

20.000 mm.

Withstands heavy, intense rain over a prolonged period. Suitable for hiking and environments where superior protection against wet conditions is required.

Water column pressure in detail: The water column pressure is the amount of water measured in millimetres, which 1 square centimeter of the jacket can withstand before it is breached by the water. The higher the water column pressure, the more water the jacket can withstand.
