We were founded in 2017 by a group of nerds… ahem… Ph.D. graduates. The foundational work for Immersion includes more than 20 years of academic research
experience supported in part by funding from the US Government. Immersion research started at the neuroeconomics lab started by Paul Zak at Claremont University.
The platform is based on the neurobiology of human engagement. The work began with digging deeper into the role that the hormone oxytocin plays in trust and social connection (think mother/infant bond or cuddling a puppy or as we discovered... almost every interaction humans have when we form some kind of connection), incorporating tools such as functional MRI, high density EEG, blood draws, medical grade biometric tracking, and drug administration. This work was used to trace out the pathways from the peripheral nervous system (nerves of the heart) to the central nervous system (nerves in the brain). This foundational and peer-reviewed research resulted in very precise and accurate measures of neurologic activity, or as we like to call it, the human connection.
These measures of neurologic activity make up our proprietary formula that measures the brains ability to connect with content. The application of this measure is endless. We've worked with a wide range of clients, including leading companies in entertainment, training, education, events, and market research.
