Immersion is measuring neurologic states, it naturally occurs in a sine-style, cyclical chart with high points and low points.
When you examine the graph, notably high peaks that are sustained for a few seconds represent moments of high immersion when your participants are tuned in and engaged. Notably low peaks that are sustained for a few seconds represent the moments of low immersion when your participants are less absorbed in the content.
When optimizing an experience, you should seek to have moments of high immersion occur in conjunction with important elements of the experience - these points of high immersion increase the likelihood of information recall and also drive a greater likelihood that the participant will act on the experience. You also want to reduce the quantity and length of those moments of low immersion, which will drive people to disengage with the content or experience.
