Excluded URLs

A guide to the excluded URLs metric in Indexing Insight

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Excluded URLs is a unique metric for Indexing Insight.

What are Excluded URLs?

The total number of URLs mapped to enabled sitemaps but NOT to a web property. Indexing Insight will NOT monitor these URLs.

Why are pages excluded from being monitored?

Our tests and experiments have found that we cannot monitor all the URLs on your website.

Our tool only monitors Google indexing for URLs if mapped to a specific web property. We don’t monitor URLs mapped to a homepage web property.

This allows you to monitor important pages and keeps the inspection cycle within 1-30 days.

The result is that we exclude pages from being inspected but we store these URLs from enabled sitemaps.

Excluded URLs will contribute to the Account URL limit for your account.

If you want to download even more URLs, it's important to make sure you are selecting important sitemaps.

How can you use the Excluded URLs metric?

The Excluded URLs metric helps us understand how many URLs we’ve downloaded are not currently being monitored by our tool.

To action this data, you can do three things:

  1. Understand importance: Identify if the excluded pages are important to monitor.

  2. Add web properties: Identify the important subdirectory URLs and manually add them as web properties to your project.

  3. Suggested web properties: Use the suggested web properties feature to help quickly select and add important web properties.
