Indie Email: Quotations and Alt text

Learn how to manage quotation marks in Alt text on Indie Email.

Updated over 2 months ago

When you use quotations in Alt on indie email, you will notice the alt text will be cut off at the end of the quotation in the email client. This happens because of a minor quirk in how email clients, read the code for Alt Text.

When you add quotation marks inside the Alt Text field, the email client gets confused and thinks the text should end there. It sees the second quote and stops reading the rest of your text.

The solution is simple: remove the quotation marks from your Alt Text.

  • Instead of: This is "my" image example

  • Just use: This is my image example

If it is absolutely necessary to use a quotation, you can use these alternatives :

  • This is 'my' image example(using ' instead of ")

  • This is "my" image example (This uses the HTML entity for a double quote)

By doing this, the email client will correctly read and display the entire line of text when you hover over the image.
