How to set up an RSS email in Indie Tech Newsletter Platform (Indie Email - v.1.9)

Updated over 5 months ago

Go to the RSS Template

Click on the RSS box, navigate to the right side and edit the RSS URL.

Edit the feed items. The exact fields will vary, but it’ll look something like:

  • title – Text (long)

  • content_url – Image

  • dateonly – Text (short)

  • Description – Text (short)

Click the pencil icon to change the font/color for each item. To modify the spacing between posts in your RSS feed emails, adjust the top and bottom padding settings within the RSS block.

Customizing the Layout and Spacing

To adjust the spacing between posts in your RSS feed emails, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to Campaigns > Campaign Templates in your dashboard.

  2. Select the relevant RSS email template and click Edit.

  3. Locate the RSS block within the template and click the pencil icon to edit it.

  4. Adjust the top and bottom padding settings to achieve the desired spacing between posts.

  5. Save your changes and exit the editor to apply these updates. This allows you to control the visual spacing in your RSS feed emails for better readability and aesthetics.

In the Summary tab (top middle)

Change the frequency: The template sends every 7 days. To change it, go to the Summary tab at the top. Scroll down to New Posts and choose how often you want the automation to check for new articles. Additionally, you can further control the content by limiting the timeframe of displayed posts or setting the number of RSS entries to show.

Controlling the Content and Timeframe of RSS Feeds

  1. Set the number of entries displayed:

    • Open the settings sidebar for the RSS block.

    • Adjust the setting for the number of RSS entries to display (e.g., setting it to 1-1).

    • This controls how many posts are shown, effectively limiting how far back stories go in your feed.

  2. Filter content by category:

    • Customize the feed URL linked to your RSS block to display posts from specific categories.

    • This helps you display only the most relevant content to your audience.

Additional Tips

  • Regularly review your RSS feed template settings to ensure your emails remain aligned with your content strategy.

  • Test changes before sending updates to ensure the adjustments look and function as expected.

Pausing RSS emails

If you take a publishing break, you can pause recurring emails.

  1. Go into Campaigns and find the next scheduled campaign. (You can do this either by filtering by Status = "Scheduled" or Type = "RSS Based".)

  2. Clicking on the dropdown arrow next to the "Edit" button on the right.

  3. Hit "Disable".

Restarting RSS emails

When you're ready to start sending the RSS email again, go back into Campaigns and find the disabled campaign.

To send a disabled recurring campaign immediately:

  1. Next to the "Edit" button, click the dropdown arrow.

  2. Hit "Enable".

Important: if you need to make any edits to the campaign, do not do this.

To schedule a disabled recurring campaign for the future:

  1. Hit "Edit."

  2. Make any design or copy changes you need to the email.

  3. In the "Summary" step, schedule the email for when you want it to go out.

  4. Hit "Finish".
