Every company in the United States has a self assigned SIC Code for tax purposes which helps them categorize their business based on its offerings. SIC stands for Standard Industry Classification.
Now you might be asking, how does this apply to me? Well, SIC Codes in some cases, can help you identify a more niche market when the native Industry categories are too broad. In most cases, however, you will be able to use our pre-defined Industry categories so please familiarize yourself with them in Search.
On the Search Page in the Industry Filter you can search by SIC Code in the field that says Enter Keywords or SIC Code.
If you don't know the CIS Code, then you're in luck! You can also use this search field to enter in a keyword of the industry you're looking for. This might be a much easier way to search if you aren't familiar with SIC Codes.

Once you've got the industry drilled down using your SIC Code(s) you can add on any additional filters you need to to narrow the search further.
SIC Codes can also be found on most Company Pages.
💡 Tip: If you're ever unsure about which SIC Code to use, you can look up a company you already do business with inside Selling.com and see what SIC Code is listed there for reference.
In conclusion, SIC Codes can be a helpful tool for narrowing your search when broader industry categories don’t provide enough precision. Be sure to also explore and get comfortable with our pre-defined Industry categories in the Search Page filter, as they will cover most of your prospecting needs.
