Budget FAQs

Do I have to mark my budget as Final Approved to enter contracts and invoices?

No. The only pre-requisite to entering contracts and invoices is loading cost codes into your budget.

I already created my budget outside of INGENIOUS. Can I import it?

We do not currently have this functionality, but we hope you will find that you prefer creating your budget in INGENIOUS! We recognize this won't always be possible and have plans to add this functionality in the future.

I am having trouble adding additional categories and sub-categories to my budget.

You cannot add a sub-category to a category if that category already has cost codes nested beneath it. We recommend configuring the categories and sub-categories first and then adding cost codes. We also recommend using a template configured by your workspace Administrators. The budget structure will be configured already, and you will not have to build it from scratch.

I used a cost code template, and then I renamed some of my cost codes. Do they still relate to the original cost codes?

No, but you can use Analytical Cost Codes to link all cost codes to one company list of codes.

Can I customize the columns on my budget? Can those customizations be reflected on an export?

This feature is coming soon! In the meantime, you can hide columns on your budget or use a Budget Layout configured by your workspace Administrators. These changes are not currently reflected on exports.

If I applied a cost code template, and then updated the template, can I use the new version?

If you added new cost codes to your template after applying the template to a project, Append to the new template to add the new cost codes to your budget.

I want the budget for one cost code to be dependent on another cost code or codes. Can I do that?

We do not currently have this functionality, but it is on our roadmap for a future enhancement!

I have existing projects that use the old two-tier cost code structure. Can I update them to use the new four-tier cost code structure or add Phases?

You can add Phases to existing projects that use the two-tier cost code structure.
