How to use Keyword Research?

Generate keyword ideas with search volume and competition data, and use them to optimize your pages and blog content.

Keyword Research generates keyword ideas for your business along with their statistics, such as search volume data and competition. You can use these ideas to optimize your on-page SEO and to plan blog content that brings in search traffic.

Keyword Research page in AI SEO App with a topic entered and the Location(s) dropdown set to All Locations

Open Keyword Research

  • In your Shopify admin, go to Apps → AI SEO App.

  • Select Keyword Research in the app menu.

Run a search

  • Enter your topics. In the Input topic(s) field, type a product or service closely related to your business — for example coffee — and press Enter to confirm it. Each topic becomes a tag, and you can add several topics to one search.

  • Choose your location. Use the Location(s) dropdown to target a specific country or market, or leave it on All Locations to see worldwide demand.

  • Click Search. The app returns a list of related keywords with their statistics.

Read the results

For each keyword idea you will see data that tells you whether it is worth targeting:

  • Search volume — roughly how many people search that term. Higher means more potential traffic.

  • Competition — how hard it is to rank for that term. Lower is easier.

The best keywords for most stores sit in the middle: enough search volume to be worth the effort, but low enough competition that a smaller store can realistically rank. Very broad, very competitive terms are usually dominated by large retailers.

Put the keywords to work

  • Product and collection pages — work your chosen keyword into the page title, meta description, first paragraph of the description, and image alt text. Write for shoppers first; never stuff the same phrase repeatedly.

  • Blog posts — question-style and long-tail keywords make excellent blog topics, and blog traffic often converts into product traffic.

  • New products — check demand before you name a product or write its description.

After applying keywords to a page, run the SEO Audit on it again to confirm the on-page score improves.

Tips

  • One primary keyword per page. Two pages competing for the same term weaken each other.

  • Prefer specific phrases. "Organic single origin coffee beans" converts far better than "coffee".

  • Mind your query allowance. Each plan includes a set number of keyword queries per month, so group related topics into one search rather than running many small ones.
