How can I set up shipping costs?

Learn how to set up shipping costs for products on your store.

When you set your product's price, you must take into consideration the base price, the shipping fees and the margin you'd like to generate on each sale. It's important to note that the shipping costs are not included in the listing price (or the price you pay to a supplier). Follow the steps to customize your imported products to set up the retail price of your products.

When products are added to your store from Spocket, shipping rates are not exported to Shopify separately. This means that you need to add the shipping costs into your retail price to ensure all costs are covered by the customer. The challenging part is that every product has two shipping prices: a domestic fee and an international fee.

Retail price equals product cost plus shipping plus your margin, for example $12 + $5 + $13 = $30. Three ways to charge shipping: free shipping, flat rate, or group rates.

All of these variables can make setting your shipping costs a bit tricky. But not to worry! Here are some strategies for setting up shipping on your Shopify store:

  1. Offer free shipping: Offering free shipping often encourages more purchases by your end customers. To do this, add the entire cost of shipping to the retail price you plan to charge. If you plan to ship worldwide, add the international shipping rate so that you don't end up undercharging for the product.

  2. Flat shipping rates: Flat shipping rates charge a specific amount for shipping at checkout. To make sure you're not losing money on orders, we recommend setting a rate that is the average shipping cost across all of your products, or using the shipping rate of the product with the highest shipping cost in your store. For more details on how to set flat shipping rates, read the article Shopify shipping rates.

  3. Group shipping rates: You can customize the shipping rates for a group of products on Shopify, so products with higher shipping costs can be charged a different rate from the rest of your store. For more details on how to set group shipping rates using shipping profiles, read the article Shopify shipping profiles.
