Billing the province (MSP) for time-based service codes (British Columbia)
Updated over a week ago

When you bill MSP for a service where the amount paid is based on the amount of time the provider spends with the patient, in the bill, you must must manually adjust the billing item's Quantity to reflect the number of time increments (for example, the number of 30 minute increments). The CHR then multiplies the service code's billed amount to reflect the number of time increments.

📌 Note: The CHR does not auto-calculate the Quantity based on the billing item's Start Time and Finish Time.

Steps

1. Start a bill from an encounter, from the Visits dashboard or from the patient's chart. If you're editing a bill, open the bill from the Billing dashboard.

2. Add the time-based billing item (service code) to the bill or click to edit a billing item. See Adding and modifying billing items (service codes) for MSP bills (British Columbia).

3. In the Edit Teleplan Billing Item window, in the Quantity field, enter the number of time units.

📌 Note: The Quantity (i.e. time units) should coincide with the billing item's Start Time and Finish Time. When you add billing items (service codes) to a bill, if the bill is linked to an appointment (was started from the Visits dashboard or from an encounter that's linked to an appointment), the appointment's Start Time and Finish Time are automatically pulled in. If the appointment went longer or shorter than the scheduled time, you can modify these times.

4. To save or update the billing item, click outside the Edit Billing Item window. The service code is added to or updated in the bill. In the bill, the service code's billed amount is adjusted to reflect the number of calls (amount of time spent for service).
