Kindergarten: Staying Alive! (Life Sciences)
Standard: K-LS1 From Molecules to Organisms: Structures and Processes
Students explore how animals meet their basic needs by sorting living and non-living things. They identify survival patterns, compare animal needs to their own, and classify animals as herbivores, carnivores or omnivores.
Grade 1: Bright Moon (Earth and Space Sciences)
Standard: 1-ESS1 Earth's Place in the Universe
Students explore the moon's changing position, shape and brightness, observing how it looks at different times of day and night. They learn that the moon follows a predictable rising and setting pattern.
Grade 2: The Power of Wind and Water (Earth and Space Sciences)
Standard: 2-ESS2 Earth's Systems
Students explore how erosion shapes the environment and how scientists and engineers prevent the damage caused by wind and water. They compare real-world solutions and design their own ideas to reduce erosion.
Grade 3: Falling With Style! (Physical Sciences)
Standard: 3-PS2 Motion and Stability: Forces and Interactions
Students explore how motion changes during a skydive and what forces help a skydiver land safely. A hands-on parachute investigation shows how air resistance slows falling objects.
Grade 4: Water Transporter (Engineering Design)
Standard: 3-5-ETS1 Engineering Design
Students follow the Engineering Design Process to plan, build and test a model irrigation system for a school vegetable garden. They reflect on their designs and propose new irrigation methods.
Grade 5: Star Patterns (Earth and Space Sciences)
Standard: 5-ESS1 Earth's Place in the Universe
Students learn about the movement of stars and the history of constellations. They build and illuminate a model constellation and investigate how star patterns shift throughout the year.
