What is individual grading?
Individual grading lets you choose which students to autograde, so you can score one student or a small group without re-grading the whole class.
This is useful when students sit an assessment at different times. For example, you can autograde the class on Monday, then autograde the two students who were absent once they finish on Thursday. Everyone else's scores stay exactly as they are.
Before you start
You need an assessment that has been assigned to your class and can be autograded.
At least one student must have Submitted or be In Progress. Students who have Not Started cannot be autograded.
How to grade individual students
Part 1: Autograde the students who have finished
1. Go to Assignments in the left-hand menu and open the assessment you want to score.
2. Scroll down to the table in the Gradebook tab.
3. Click the checkboxes of the students you want to autograde. Students with a status of Submitted or In Progress are selected by default.
To tick or untick all eligible students at once, click Sort.
To score only some students, untick the students you don't want to score yet. (un select students
Note: Students below the Not Started line have not opened the assessment and cannot be selected for autograding.
4. Click Autograde. Only the ticked students are graded. (have everyone selected here)
5. Review the results. Each student's score, grade and the Class Average update straight away.
Note: After autograding, all checkboxes are unticked so no one is accidentally graded twice.
Part 2: Grade students who finish later
When more students are ready to sit the assessment, reopen the assignment so they can complete it.
2. Once they've submitted, go back to the Gradebook tab.
Note: Students with a status of Submitted or In Progress are selected by default.
3. Tick the checkbox next to each newly submitted student. Leave everyone else unticked. Click Autograded.
Only the students you ticked are graded. Scores you've already saved for other students are not changed.
Repeat Part 2 as often as you need, for example for each group of absent students.
